Kanaida Povey has plenty of food for thought in the coming weeks thanks to be picked as the artist in residence at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
Kanaida is set to work on creating props such as food for a Russian Jewish wedding in the upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof at the theatre.
The MA fine art student at the University of Chichester is poised to undertake her new role in the props department after being officially selected by the CFT.
The residency aims to help develop practical skills and knowledge to inform the artist’s practice and will culminate in an exhibition in the CFT foyer later in the year.
Textile artist Kanaida explained that she is particularly excited to “to push the boundaries of my material and my own ideas, and I think that working in a new environment, which is unlike anything I have worked in before, could help me push my work to a new level”.
This is the third annual artist’s residency at CFT, demonstrating the strong partnership between Chichester Festival Theatre and the University of Chichester’s Fine Art Department.
Kanaida’s residency will contribute to her MA degree; she will also support the work of the Learning, Education and Participation department (LEAP) by contributing to the theatre’s programme of workshops and events and supporting young people taking part in the arts award scheme.
