The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:30 AM on July 29, 2026, resulted in the closure of a major traffic artery for several hours.
Serious Collision Near Eagles Roundabout
According to Sussex Police, the victim—an elderly woman who was walking her dog at the time—was involved in a collision with a white Volvo XC40. The incident took place on the stretch of the A22 between the Eagles Roundabout (A295 South Road) and the Diplocks Way Roundabout in Hailsham.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and air ambulance crews attended the scene to provide emergency treatment. The pedestrian was subsequently transported to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with what authorities have described as serious injuries. The driver of the Volvo remained at the scene following the collision and was reported to be unharmed.
