Emergency Response and Coordination

The incident triggered a significant multi-agency response. In addition to Sussex Police, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were deployed to the beach to provide assistance. The area was reportedly busy at the time of the emergency call, as many visitors had travelled to the coast during the warm weekend weather.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending formal identification and notification of all next of kin. The two survivors were assessed by paramedics, though their current conditions have not been detailed further by officials.

Ongoing Investigations

While the circumstances leading up to the emergency call are still being reviewed, the specific cause of death remains officially unconfirmed. According to police procedures, the death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, with the final determination pending an inquest by the coroner.

The tragedy occurred during a period of high visitor numbers across the region’s beaches. Residents and visitors have been reminded of the importance of coastal safety, particularly as they consider how the latest heatwave impacts the South East & Chichester and surrounding coastal areas, often leading to increased crowds at tidal locations.

Sussex Police have stated that a report will be prepared for the coroner in due course. Members of the public who may have witnessed the sequence of events leading to the incident are encouraged to contact the authorities to assist with their enquiries.
