Drivers in Chichester are facing record-breaking costs at the pumps this week as national diesel prices hit an all-time high. Following a sharp spike in wholesale costs, the average price of diesel across the UK reached 199.18p per litre on Monday, 28 September 2026.

The latest figures for Chichester show that while some forecourts remain slightly below the £2 mark, many are now reflecting the global volatility caused by supply disruptions in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

As of Tuesday, 29 September, the cheapest place to fill up with unleaded petrol in Chichester is the Texaco Southern Co-Op on Lavant Road, priced at 174.9p per litre. This is currently the most competitive rate in the city.

Other competitive rates for petrol can be found at Sainsbury’s on Westhampnett Road and Tesco on Fishbourne Road East, though prices across the district have seen a steady upward trend throughout the month.

Cheapest Diesel in Chichester

Diesel prices have climbed more aggressively, with several major retailers in the city now charging just under the £2 threshold. The cheapest diesel currently available in Chichester is 199.9p per litre at the following locations:

  • Sainsbury’s, Westhampnett Road
  • Tesco, Fishbourne Road East

According to industry data reported by the RAC, average UK diesel prices reached a record 199.18p per litre on Monday, 28 September 2026. For a driver of a typical family car with a 55-litre tank, the cost of a single fill-up of diesel has now risen to nearly £110.

Why are fuel prices rising?

The recent surge is largely attributed to a ‘conflict premium’ impacting global oil markets. The ongoing US-Iran war and an effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital transit point for world oil supplies—have severely restricted availability. This has been compounded by Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries and a Russian ban on diesel exports, which has further squeezed the European market.
