The Minerva Theatre is set to host the world premiere of Antigone Exits tomorrow, Saturday 26 September, bringing a 21st-century interpretation of Sophocles’ ancient tragedy to Chichester.
Written by Nina Segal and directed by Jeff James, the production is part of the Chichester Festival 2026 season. This new adaptation explores the enduring friction between personal morality and the power of the state, reimagining the Greek classic through a contemporary lens.
Nina Cassells takes the title role of Antigone, while Max Bennett performs as Creon. The production is scheduled for a strictly limited three-week run at the Minerva, concluding on Saturday 17 October. While performances begin tomorrow, the official press night for the production is confirmed for Thursday 1 October.
The staging at the Minerva Theatre, part of the Chichester Festival Theatre complex at Oaklands Park, continues the venue’s tradition of commissioning new work alongside established classics. This world premiere marks the culmination of a summer season that has seen a wide range of drama and musical theatre in the city.
