Drivers using Down Street near West Ashling should check the latest roadworks information ahead of planned sewerage works later this month.

A temporary closure is planned for Down Street between Southbrook Road and Greenfield Lane, in the Funtington to West Ashling area.

The closure is listed in a West Sussex County Council temporary closure notice, which says the order is due to come into effect on 23 May 2026.

When the works are expected

The sewerage works are proposed to start on or after 23 May 2026 and are expected to take one week.

The notice also says the legal order can remain in force for up to 18 months or until the works are completed, whichever is earlier. That is the maximum legal period for the order and should not be read as the expected length of the works.

Where the closure applies

The affected section is Down Street between Southbrook Road and Greenfield Lane.

No named diversion route or daily working hours have been confirmed in the verified notice.

What drivers should do

Drivers should check the latest information before travelling, as roadworks dates and timings can change. West Sussex County Council directs road users to its roadworks and projects information for current and scheduled works across the county.

Queries about the works should be directed to Southern Water on 01424 217043.

Queries about the effect of the order on highway users should be directed to West Sussex County Council on 01243 642105.
