Garden lovers are being urged by St Wilfrid’s to show off their outdoor space this summer and raise money for the hospice.

The Open Gardens scheme is a vibrant event that showcases various private gardens in the region for the general public to enjoy.

On July 8th, St Wilfrid’s will be opening their garden in Grosvenor Road, Chichester, and are encouraging others to do the same.

Local residents Chris and Heather Lock have been sharing their garden with the public for many years now as it’s a fun way to meet new people.

Heather said: “It’s great fun exchanging knowledge with others and a wonderful way to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

“Over the years, we’ve had some interesting conversations with people, some of whom have come back to us asking for our advice on plant care and so on. It can be very social and the tea and cake are an important part of the day of course!”

It doesn’t matter if your garden is small and well-formed, has a traditional or modern style or has a quirky or daring layout, all gardens are welcome.

To participate in this scheme, all you need to do is provide a warm welcome with a cup of tea for a small admission fee of around £3.50, then enjoy hosting a fun event all while raising money for a great cause.

If showing off your garden is a passion of yours and you want to get involved, then get in touch with St Wilfrid’s Hospice through their website.

In other news, local pubs have been raising money for St Wilfrid’s throughout March by holding various quizzes, all supported by the Friends of Sussex Hospice as well as being backed by Al Murray.

Numerous pubs have got involved and we appreciate all the effort that went into these quiz nights, says Jerry Doyle, head of fundraising and communications.

She said: “We want to say massive thank you to every local pub and all the pub goers who have got quizzing!

“The quizzes held by The Seal, Anchor, The George Inn, Four Chestnuts, Kings Arms, Maypole Inn, Lion and QEII are expecting to raise nearly £2,000, to help fund the vital local services we provide to help terminally ill people.

“In addition, the Berkley Arms have raised money too in support of our Dream Building campaign. So, Cheers!”

St Wilfrid’s Hospice provide tailored end of life care both in the community and at the Hospice, supporting patients living with a terminal illness, and their family and friends.
