It will be a case of all the fun of the fete for Chichester’s mayor Peter Evans when he officially opens a fun-packed gathering in Chichester today (Saturday). For St Anthony’s School is holding a vintage village fete and classic car show starting at 11am.

As well as a vintage village, visitors can enjoy the delights of a petting zoo, enjoy a ride on a steam train, and more than 50 classic cars will be on show. There will also be a host of side shows and entertainments and you can take time out for refreshments at the village tea room at the school in Chichester’s Woodlands Lane.

This is the fourth time St Anthony’s has boasted a classic vehicles show and this time of asking visitors can view cars ranging from a 1920s Ford Mordel T to a much more modern Rover 75 V8. The Ford Model T (AKA the Tin Lizzie, Leaping Lena, or flivver) is an automobile produced by the Ford Motor Company from 1908, to 1927, and is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that opened travel to the common middle-class Americans.

And the owners of these cars are rightly proud of their vehicles and are more than happy to chat to visitors to explain a little more detail as well as offer the chance for pictures to be taken alongside the cars they consider to be their pride and joy.

It is free entry and all proceeds will go to support the fantastic activities at the school, which caters for children with special needs. There was delight at the school earlier this year when, following a short inspection by Janet Pearce, it was rated outstanding by Ofsted for the third time.

She described the school as “extremely well regarded among parents and other professionals” and added that it was “a winning combination of deep knowledge of each pupil, outstanding teaching and assessment and a constant drive for improvement has assured the school’s continued success and pupils’ excellent progress.”
