Sussex Police have officially concluded their investigation into the deaths of three sisters whose bodies were recovered from the sea off Brighton beach, confirming there was no evidence of criminality or third-party involvement.
The sisters, identified as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, all from Uxbridge in west London, were found on the morning of Wednesday, 13 May 2026. Post-mortem examinations have since confirmed the cause of death for all three women was drowning.
Detectives tracing the final movements of the sisters established a specific timeline leading up to the tragedy. The trio were dropped off by a taxi at Madeira Drive in Brighton at 10.20pm on 12 May.
Just 24 hours before travelling to the coast, the sisters had visited Brookvale Park lake in Birmingham, the location where their mother had died 16 years earlier. Emergency services were first alerted to the situation in Brighton at 5.45am on 13 May, following reports of a person in the water.
According to ITV News Meridian, the police file has now been formally passed to HM Coroner for Brighton and Hove.
While the criminal investigation is over, the full circumstances of the sisters’ deaths will be examined during a coroner’s inquest. This process, which will look at the background and events leading to the tragedy, is expected to resume in early October 2026.
