Ruper Green, chairman of Covers, has spoken of his delight in raising more than £8,000 to boost the coffers of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
The timber and builders Merchants raised the money during their third “Help for Hospices Week” last September, held across all Covers’ depots.
At the Chichester depot, home ideas store and head office, fundraising activities included The Great Covers Bake off, judged by ‘50s and ‘60s era entertainer and St Wilfrid’s supporter Dawn Gracie; a bacon butty stall for trade customers; and the grand prize draw, conducted by actor Christopher Timothy.
Celebrating the fundraising achievement, Covers chairman Mr Green presented St Wilfrid’s chief executive Alison Moorey with a cheque for £8,200 that will help the hospice deliver vital end of life care to the local community.
He said: “We’re delighted to have raised so much for this important cause and I thank all our customers, staff and hospice representatives who helped make this achievement possible.
And St Wilfrid’s corporate fundraiser, Alisa Lakeman-Ford, said: “The time, energy and money committed by Covers helps ensure that we can carry on providing much-needed services that make a big difference to the lives of local people.
Overall, throughout their fundraising week, Covers raised £30,350 for a number of local hospices, donating £5 for each registered customer that made a purchase in their stores.
