A new sushi restaurant is a step closer to opening in Chichester city centre after planning officials approved new signage for a premises on The Hornet.
Chichester District Council has granted permission for ‘SukiSushi’ branding to be installed at 25 The Hornet, a Grade II listed building located at the edge of the city’s primary shopping area. The decision allows for the installation of one non-illuminated fascia sign and one non-illuminated projecting sign on the shopfront.
The site was previously occupied by ‘The Hair and Beauty Bar’ salon. The transition from a retail and beauty unit into a food establishment follows a prior approval application submitted earlier in 2026 (Ref: 26/00626/PA3M). That application sought a change of use for the building to operate as a restaurant and takeaway under Class E and Sui Generis designations.

Due to the building’s Grade II listed status, the signage required specific Listed Building Consent to ensure the new branding remained sympathetic to the historical character of the property. The choice of non-illuminated signs is often a requirement for heritage assets within Chichester’s conservation areas to prevent modern lighting from impacting the street scene.
The approval of the shopfront branding marks the latest development for the forthcoming SukiSushi venture, although an exact opening date for the restaurant has not yet been confirmed. Publicly available planning documents have not yet detailed the specific menu or intended opening hours for the business.
The development is situated at 25 The Hornet, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 7JL. Residents and visitors to the area can expect to see the removal of the former salon branding and the installation of the new SukiSushi signage in the coming weeks as work on the interior conversion continues.
