West Sussex residents urged to respond on council reorganisation plans

West Sussex residents, businesses and community organisations have until 15 June 2026 to respond to a Government consultation on local government reorganisation.

West Sussex County Council says the Government has launched a further consultation on proposals for future council structures in the county.

What is being consulted on

The consultation concerns a modified version of the two-unitary option previously put forward by West Sussex councils.

The earlier two-council option grouped Arun, Adur, Chichester and Worthing together, with Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex in the other council.

Why Chichester is affected

Under the modified proposal, Chichester would be removed from the Arun, Adur and Worthing grouping and placed in a unitary council with Crawley, Mid Sussex and Horsham.

The county council says it will consider the modification against the Government’s published criteria and revisit previous analysis before submitting its response.

What residents should do

Residents, businesses and community organisations can take part in the public consultation before the final deadline of 15 June 2026.

Readers should check the Government consultation details linked by West Sussex County Council before responding, as the proposals remain at consultation stage.

What is not yet confirmed

No final council structure has been approved in the verified source material.

The source does not confirm any specific changes to council tax, bin collections, housing, planning, roads, schools, adult social care or other services.

Residents should treat the proposals as part of an ongoing consultation process, not as a confirmed change to local services.
