Proposals for £4.4 million in infrastructure projects across the district were scrutinised today as Chichester District Council’s Development Plan and Infrastructure Panel (DPIP) met to review future growth and connectivity priorities.
The meeting, held on Wednesday 16 September 2026, focused on the draft Infrastructure Business Plan (IBP) for 2027-2032 and the final stages of the Local Plan 2045 scoping consultation. The session coincided with the official launch of a major mobile signal improvement project for the city centre.
Infrastructure Business Plan 2027-32
The panel reviewed a list of six new projects proposed for inclusion in the upcoming five-year business plan. Totaling £4.4 million, these schemes are designed to support the district’s growing population and improve local facilities. Key projects highlighted in the draft plan include:
- Avenue de Chartres: A £2.4 million public realm and active travel scheme.
- Priory Park: A £997,000 redevelopment of the White Pavilion.
- St Paul’s Road: A £50,000 feasibility study for a new signalised crossing at the junction with Sherborne Road.
- Selsey Academy: New multi-sports facilities.
Residents have until 30 October 2026 to provide feedback on these proposals. The consultation on the draft IBP 2027-32 opened on 14 September and the plan will eventually move to Full Council for final approval.
Local Plan 2045 Deadlines
The DPIP meeting served as a final reminder for the public to engage with the Chichester Local Plan 2045 scoping consultation. This consultation is currently in its final week and is scheduled to close at 5:00 pm on Friday 25 September 2026.
This scoping stage is a distinct process from the current Local Plan 2021-2039 and has been influenced by the updated National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) published by the government on 17 August 2026. Those wishing to submit their views can do so via the Chichester District Council planning portal.
City Centre Mobile Signal Boost
In addition to planning and physical infrastructure, the meeting noted the launch of the ‘OpenDigital’ project today, 16 September. The initiative aims to significantly improve mobile signal coverage across Chichester city centre.
The project is being delivered in partnership with West Sussex County Council to address long-standing connectivity issues in the historic centre.
While the DPIP endorses and monitors the progress of these various infrastructure and planning documents, final budgetary and policy decisions remain subject to future council votes.
