GTA 6 soundtrack to launch on physical media while game remains digital-only

Rockstar Games and Atlantic Records have officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track compilation of original music scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. The announcement arrived alongside the immediate release of six singles to streaming platforms, including collaborations with Travis Scott and PinkPantheress.

While the reveal confirms a heavy-hitting lineup for the game’s audio landscape, it has also sparked a contentious debate among fans regarding Rockstar’s approach to physical media. The studio is offering a variety of physical formats for the soundtrack, ranging from standard CDs to a premium liquid-filled vinyl edition. However, this commitment to tangible music products contrasts with reports that the Grand Theft Auto VI game box will not include a physical disc, but rather a digital download code.

The Soundtrack Lineup and Production

The upcoming album serves as a centerpiece for the series’ musical identity, which has historically been a pillar of the Grand Theft Auto experience. Among the initial tracks released is “RHYNO” by Travis Scott, which features production from Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Other confirmed artists for the project include Fred again.., Keith Richards, Morgan Wallen, and Yung Lean.

The partnership with Atlantic Records represents a significant commercial expansion for the franchise’s music distribution. In-game, the music is expected to tie into local narratives within Leonida, including the “Only Raw Records” storyline mentioned in official character and regional profiles.

Physical Media Pricing and Availability

Rockstar has positioned the soundtrack as a collector’s item with several physical tiers. The standard CD is priced at $19.98, while the standard vinyl edition retails for $49.98. The most exclusive version—a limited-edition liquid-filled vinyl—was listed at $124.98.

The irony of these premium physical music offerings has not been lost on the community. Fan discussions have highlighted the frustration of being able to own a physical record of the game’s music while being denied a physical disc for the software itself. As modern gaming shifts toward digital-only distribution, the “code in a box” model has become a point of friction for collectors who prioritize long-term ownership and the ability to play without mandatory downloads.

Launch Timeline

Both the album and the game are set for a global release on November 19, 2026. For those planning to play the digital version on day one, pre-loads for the game are scheduled to begin on November 12. While six tracks, including “Sexy Magic,” are currently available on streaming services, the remaining 28 tracks will remain under wraps until the full launch in November.
