The Midhurst sporting community is in mourning following the death of Harry Revell, a respected polo player who was involved in a serious accident at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
The incident occurred during a match on Friday 11 September 2026. Emergency services, including the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex, were called to the grounds in Midhurst, with a helicopter arriving at the scene at 5.46pm.
Cowdray Park Polo Club confirmed the news of Mr Revell’s passing. In a statement, the club expressed “great sadness” at the loss and announced that the remainder of the Farewell Cup tournament would be abandoned as a mark of respect to his family and friends.
Mr Revell was a well-known figure in the local area, with tributes being paid by both the sporting and wider West Sussex community. The Three Moles pub in Petworth, where Mr Revell was a familiar face, described him as a “very special” person in a tribute following the news.
It has been reported that Mr Revell was unconscious immediately following the accident and remained peaceful until his passing. The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), the sport’s governing body, has also expressed its condolences and is offering support to those affected by the tragedy.
