World-renowned plantsman Roy Lancaster will be giving talks at select Hillier Garden Centres this June, to commemorate the publication of his autobiography, ‘My life with plants’.

The book, which was published on 23rd March by Filbert Press, in association with the Royal Horticultural Society, it is the story of his adventures with plants: from learning the ropes as a young apprentice to curatorship of the Hillier Gardens and Arboretum and a dynamic freelance career.

A spokesman said: “We are thrilled. Hillier and Roy have a close history together. He worked with Hillier for many years – time that is also featured in his new book. We are delighted to have the opportunity to team up again and welcome Roy to a number of Hillier Garden Centres, including Chichester, in June.”

Guests at the talk will have the chance to hear first-hand some of the exhilarating stories in his autobiography, as well as the stories behind some of the plants we know and love today.

The event takes place on 7 June at 10:30am — the talks last approximately 90 minutes — and entry costs £5; guests will receive a £5 voucher off Roy’s new book.

At Hillier Chichester, customers will discover a comprehensive range of hardy garden plants plus seasonal bedding suitable for any aspect. In keeping with the local area, there is a particularly wide range of cottage garden plants, such as roses, clematis and herbaceous perennials, plus a wide selection of suitable subjects for coastal planting.

If you are seeking semi-mature trees — something Hillier is world-renowned for — you can also discuss and order them at the centre.
