Would-be fundraisers are being encouraged to sign up for a night-time walk to raise money for a hugely deserving cause. St Wilfrid’s Hospice is set to stage the ninth Moonlight Walk next month.

St Wilfrid’s is an independent, local charity that has been supporting those in the community who are living with a terminal illness, for more than 30 years.

The event starts at 10pm, from Westgate Leisure (Chichester), on May 6 and you can register on the night.

A volunteer at last year’s event said: “The walk was a great success for everyone. I have heard all kinds of positive comments, from people who were walking who really appreciated all the effort involved in organising such a well run event.”

By taking part in the event and raising as much money as possible, either by sponsorship, donation or perhaps hosting a small event such as a cake sale at work or a coffee morning for your friends, you’ll be helping to ensure the hospice is able to continue providing vital services.

Supporters of the hospice manage to raise just under £20,000 a day with their amazing fund-raising efforts.

A spokesman explains: “As you might imagine, we spend the money on a variety of core items such as medical equipment, drugs and wages. However, we also have to spend money on less glamorous things such gas and electric, stationery and toilet paper!

“Quite simply, the donations allows us to do what we do – whether that’s helping to keep our buildings running or paying for a nurse to be with a family in the last hours of a patient’s life.

“As for the walk, you can choose between our five or 10 mile sponsored walks which take in the Roman Walls and Bishop’s Palace Gardens, which will be looking spectacular all lit up with glow sticks.”

Entry is just £15 and includes a special Moonlight Walk t-shirt, refreshments along the way and a light breakfast and relaxing massage to look forward to at the finish!
