Dream come true! Jamie thrilled to overcome Asperger’s to land radio role in media business

Broadcaster Jamie Dyer, who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, says he has realised a dream after being recruited by a dynamic Chichester media business.

University of Chichester graduate Dyer is joining Falbros Media Group (FMG) with a view to growing the SouthWaves Radio station he set up as well as working on other exciting projects in the company’s portfolio.

Ryan Ewen, head of digital at FMG, said: “Jamie has an abundance of talent and has also demonstrated a huge desire to succeed and for those reasons and so many more he is the perfect fit for us.

“Jamie has a fantastic pedigree. He is very versatile and is happy as a radio presenter, writer or in front of camera. We’re exploring a number of new projects and see Jamie being an integral part of that development of our business.”

And Jamie says he is delighted to bring his skills set to FMG on what will be his 10th year as a radio presenter. He said: “I am delighted to be joining FMG, it’s the end of one journey and the start of another.

“Since my graduation from the University of Chichester in 2012 (media production and media studies), I have spent my time honing skills, experience and knowledge on a voluntary basis; this move finally gives me the chance to take that experience into the workplace.

“The last four years have been full of ups and downs, but meeting Ryan and his professional team has inspired me to continue my passion for producing content, promoting local and reaching the community.

“I started SouthWaves Radio as a way of getting closer to the community. I was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome in 2014, but wanted a way to prove that I could overcome difficulties and communicate effectively.

“I attended events, conducted interviews and created mass amounts of audio and visual content. I have been working alone mostly for a long time, and look forward to working as part of a united team. This year marks my 10th anniversary in radio, and I’m excited to be taking this next step with FMG.

“Joining FMG is a dream come true, as they share my enthusiasm for content creation. Upon meeting their team, I knew that it would be a great fit for both me and the brand I created. Exciting times ahead. SouthWaves Radio becoming part of the FMG family is a natural progression for the brand.”

FMG owns an extensive number of websites, including Chichester.News and Bognor.News. And Mr Ewen added: “FMG core values are those of developing talented individuals in tandem with impacting local communities to create jobs and increase economies.

“With a large digital profile consisting of over 800 websites, 1,500 premium domain names across 80 countries around the world. FMG looks to bridge the gap between online and the real world.

“SouthWaves Radio is a great example of providing an infrastructure behind an individual so that they can focus on what they are good at.

“Radio, news and Chifi (an initiative to provide free WiFi in the city) gives people a voice which often goes unheard due to the nature of the current media structure within Chichester.”
