Chichester is forecast to get a big jobs boost thanks to a new £6million “enterprise centre” with a prediction of 275 new jobs being created every three years.

Work has started on the project with 35,000 square feet of high quality workspace planned in a new purpose-built development for local businesses.

The project, in Terminus Road, Chichester, could also contribute to an improvement in business survival rates. It is expected to be completed in December this year.

The project will offer businesses flexible accommodation, with the ability to rent space for just two weeks. The aim is to help businesses access the support that they need and will also include working with local education providers and business support groups to offer support and mentoring schemes.

Gillian Keegan, of Chichester District Council, said: “This dedicated, modern facility will enable businesses to grow and flourish, helping to create new, high quality jobs for local people. We want to encourage economic growth in the district and this project is a major part of the council’s encouragement of local business development. It will give a real boost to businesses over the next few years, which will be of real and lasting value in our area.”

The council says its research shows that the area is in need of a new high quality development where new businesses can rent space. Neilcott Construction Ltd is the main contractor for the project. Regional director Pat Hughes said the company is delighted to be working in partnership with Chichester District Council on the project.

He added: “It will bring dedicated, modern facilities that will enable businesses to grow and flourish, helping to create new, high quality jobs for local people. We are also keen to ensure that the construction process provides opportunities for local employment and skills development.”

Some 82 business units ranging from 150 to 700 square feet will be offered across three buildings, with the unique space offering flexible rental terms. The development will offer office suites, workshop units and shared workspaces, along with dedicated car parking on a 1.75 acre site.
