Miles Rutherford will look to rally his troops to get Chichester City’s title ambition back on track when they go to Eastbourne Town on Saturday.

Late goals from Dave Herbert and Jack Lee weren’t enough as City lost 3-2 to Newhaven last time of asking; a defeat that ended their streak of wins away from home.

Rutherford’s side are level on points with their hosts in the SCFL Premier Division, with City in third and Eastbourne in fourth separated only by goal difference.

Scfl Table

If the Oaklands Park outfit want to keep the pressure on league leaders Haywards Heath and get back to the top spot they need a win on their travels. The table toppers have 28 points, as do second place Peacehaven with City on 24 points having played a game more than the top two.

Against Newhaven, City were 2-0 down at the half-time after goals in quick succession coming from midfielder Lee Robinson. He completed his hat-trick early in the second half.

Herbert sparked a potential comeback when he scored his third goal in three games in the 68th minute.

Lee scored a late consolation goal in the 90th minute to reduce the deficit to just one goal. But it wasn’t enough as Newhaven ran away with the points.
