Eager cyclists urged by St Wilfrid’s to sign up for bike ride in France to raise money for new venue

Eager cyclists are being encouraged to sign up for a bike ride in France to raise money for a new venue for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

The Dream Wheelers bike ride is a three-night tour around the Normandy countryside and all the fundraising is part of the DreamBuilding project that aims to build the hospice in Bosham.

This is not only a great opportunity for some good fun and exercise, but it’s a great cause that people should get involved in, says spokeswoman Poppy Greeno.

She said: “This is not just a bike ride, but it is also a great experience, with an opportunity to raise money for our new DreamBuilding that will help us support our local community for years to come.”

This fun and relaxed bike tour is open to cyclists of all abilities who wish to take in 100 miles of beautiful scenery and will take place from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th May.

With the success of the inaugural Dream Wheelers bike tour last summer, it was an easy decision for St Wilfrid’s to organise another one.

The event was praised by a number of bike riders who participated last year with some comments including; “Well-organised and offered great support to the riders”, and “it was great fun”.

Mike Harrington, a 2017 rider, had only positive things to say about his trip. He said: “It was designed for a mixed range of abilities.

“There was the right blend of challenging hills and glorious scenery. The support team were superb, and I would definitely recommend the 2018 Ride to everyone.”

Registration for the event costs £300, but that will include ferry travel to Caen, two nights of accommodation, a support team to transport luggage, day to day first aid, a goodie bag and a cycling shirt.

The new purpose-built hospice is set to cost around £15.5 million and 84-percent of that has already been secured. However, St Wilfrid’s are calling on the community to raise the remaining £2.5 million for the DreamBuilding.
