Radio 2 presenter Owain Wyn Evans has announced he will undertake the “4 Nations Cycle Challenge,” a record-breaking journey of nearly 400 miles to raise funds for the 2026 Children in Need appeal. The trek marks the greatest distance ever attempted for a Radio 2 fundraising event, surpassing the 300-mile challenge completed by Paddy McGuinness in 2024.
The challenge is scheduled to take place over five days, beginning in Glasgow on Monday, November 9, and concluding in Cardiff on Friday, November 13, 2026. Unlike previous linear routes, this itinerary specifically incorporates all four nations of the United Kingdom, including a segment in Northern Ireland, before the Welsh presenter crosses the finish line in the capital of Wales.
Overcoming Physical Hurdles
Evans, who is known for hosting the “Early Bird” show, has been candid about the physical toll the challenge is expected to take. Despite the ambitious nature of the 400-mile route, he has admitted that he is not a regular cyclist and has historically struggled with physical balance. During early preparations, he noted that the training process has been difficult because of these factors.
The upcoming cycle is not Evans’ first major undertaking for the charity. In 2021, he completed a 24-hour “Drumathon” that raised more than £3.8 million for Children in Need. While that event tested his rhythmic endurance, the 4 Nations Cycle Challenge will shift the focus to long-distance athletic stamina—a field Evans acknowledges is outside his usual comfort zone.
