Great Scott! In-form Jones bids to bag more goals as Chichester City enjoy start to campaign

Scott Jones has netted four goals in his last two games — and will be hungry for more as Chichester City prepare for a SCFL Premier Division clash at home to East Preston a week on Saturday.

Jones has rescued points for City in the last two games, turning a 3-1 deficit around with a quick-fire hat-trick against Worthing United in a 5-3 victory.

And he salvaged a point with a last-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Crawley Down Gatwick in Tuesday’s heated exchange, in which the visitors had two players dismissed.

Jones will hope to continue his fine scoring form as Miles Rutherford’s side approach their next game. The Oaklands Park outfit have enjoyed a decent start to the campaign and sit third in the table behind leaders Saltdean and second-placed Loxwood.

Rutherford, speaking after the win over Worthing, is looking for a bit more consistency from his side. He said: “We’re doing alright at home but we’ve got to play well consistently both home and way. I’m confident we’ll turn it round.”

Meanwhile, there has been mixed fortunes for other sides in our area Division 1 leaders Selsey breezed past Storrington with a 3-0 win in last Saturday’s exchange. They will be looking to repeat their stellar start to their league campaign with a victory in Saturday’s Challenge Cup clash away to Billingshurst.

Elsewhere, Division 2 side Sidlesham will be hoping to build on their 1-1 draw away to Westfield last Saturday, with a win in their first FA Challenge Vase game away to Knaphill at the weekend.

And Division 2 side Bosham will hope to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Upper Beading. A win away to Rustington on Saturday will take them above the eighth placed side.
