A community campaign to secure safe school crossings at the Eastergate War Memorial roundabout continues ahead of a key meeting on the junction’s future.
The “Safe School Crossings at the Eastergate War Memorial” petition, led by local resident David Claydon, comes ahead of a Parish Council Working Party meeting scheduled for Friday, 2 October, at 2:00 PM, where safety improvements at the busy junction will be discussed.
The roundabout sits at the intersection of Fontwell Avenue (A29) and Barnham Road (B2233), a location campaigners say is increasingly dangerous for pedestrians. The junction serves as a primary route for pupils attending both Eastergate Primary School and Ormiston Six Villages Academy.
While West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has already approved funding for feasibility and design work for a more robust roundabout layout at the site, campaigners are specifically calling for the installation of zebra crossings or traffic lights to be prioritised.
