Fans of the popular game show “The Price is Right” and those associated with the show are still mourning the loss of the great Bob Barker. The beloved host of the CBS series passed away in August at the age of 99 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. Many celebrities, including his “Happy Gilmore” co-star Adam Sandler and media personality Tom Bergeron, paid tribute to the late TV icon. Drew Carey, the current host of the show, also honored his predecessor, and a special tribute episode was aired in Barker’s honor. In a recent interview, Carey shared what he learned from the TV staple and why Barker was so exceptional at his job.
The Legacy of Bob Barker
Bob Barker hosted “The Price is Right” from 1972 until his retirement in 2007. He also headlined “Truth or Consequences” from 1956 to 1975. Even after leaving the show, he made a few more appearances, including a special April Fool’s Day episode where he swapped places with Drew Carey. Following Barker’s death, Carey was interviewed on the set of the long-running show. He discussed a key factor that made Barker so successful:

Drew Carey Carrying the Torch
Drew Carey has been hosting “The Price is Right” for a while now and has done a commendable job. It’s evident that he has taken inspiration from his hero, Bob Barker, while also developing his own unique approach to the game. However, Carey still received guidance from Barker, who apparently gave him valuable advice. Despite the daunting task of filling Barker’s shoes, Carey is doing it well, although he believes he still needs to loosen up more.
The Enduring Legacy of Bob Barker
Bob Barker is widely regarded as one of the best game show hosts ever, and his legacy will live on in various ways. Apart from his contributions to television, he reportedly left his fortune to numerous charities. This is not surprising, as he became known as a philanthropist in his later years. It is still surreal to think that Barker is no longer with us. Drew Carey and many others will undoubtedly miss his relaxed on-camera demeanor, as well as his passionate dedication to social activism in his personal life.
Despite the loss, “The Price is Right” continues to be a mainstay on daytime TV. New episodes can be enjoyed in syndication as part of the 2023 TV schedule.
