Reality TV has always had game shows. In a lot of different types of game shows, players try their luck by answering general or specialized trivia questions. The simple idea has always kept people interested and suggested that it could be a quick and easy way to win money. The Hulu comedy picture Quiz Lady (2023) will look at this exact point of view. Since October 2020, when it was first announced, the idea has been in the works. Awkwafina (Renfield) and Sandra Oh (Turning Red) were already cast as sisters, and Jen D’Angelo (Hocus Pocus 2) was hired to write the script. By December 2021, Netflix had pulled out of the project, but 20th Century Studios had already bought the rights to make the movie. Quiz Lady will finally be ready to come out by the end of this year. What is the Plot of Quiz Lady?
The comedy is about a typical family with problems, mostly about two sisters, Anne and Jenny. Anne is a quiet homebody who loves her dog and a daily game show called Quiz Show. On the other hand, Jim is a fun-loving, outgoing person who likes to go out and do things. Jenny, on the other hand, is a quirky go-getter who has left to look for business chances. When the sisters discover their mother has a big debt from playing at casinos, they decide to get back together and work as a team. They devise a crazy plan that concerns Anne’s knowledge of facts and could help her win money on the Quiz Show. Here’s what the official plot summary says:
The brilliant but tightly wound, gameshow-obsessed young woman, Anne (Awkwafina), and her estranged, train-wreck of a sister, Jenny (Oh), must work together to help cover their mother’s gambling debts. When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they set out on a wild, cross-country trek to get the cash the only way they know how: by turning Anne into a bona fide gameshow champion.
This strange but entertaining story is one of two upcoming comedies in which Awkwafina plays a main character who has to make money in a strange way. Like Grand Death Lotto, Quiz Lady is mostly a comedy, but some violent scenes bring it close to an MA or R rating. The movie will be about how the sisters’ family works against the background of a crazy game show trick.
