Priscilla: Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot, And Everything We Know So Far

Elvis Presley is one of the most respected and well-known figures in American culture. The real legend took over the United States and the rest of the world with his music and charisma, making such an impact that his legends still live on. We saw this happen last year when Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, nominated for an Oscar, came out and made everyone crazy about Elvis again. Warner Bros. Discovery made a lot of money off of the movie. Also, it helped Austin Butler get his career off the ground, and his act earned him a number of awards and nominations. This year, it’s Sofia Coppola’s turn to tell her version of the Elvis story, and as expected, she has a unique point of view.

Coppola’s movie Priscilla is based on Priscilla Presley’s book Elvis and Me, about how she met Elvis and how their relationship grew. Coppola’s long and successful career has been marked by her study of controversial characters, unusual relationships, and stories that are not just about women but are also truly feminine in their ideas and style. The director who has been nominated for an Academy Award and is known for movies like Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, and Marie Antoinette might be the best person to bring the story of Elvis and Priscilla to the big screen. Is There a Trailer For ‘Priscilla’?

On June 21, 2023, A24 posted the first official trailer for Priscilla. The 45-second video has almost-familiar lines, but it tells us just enough about the new movie to know what to expect.

What is the Plot of Priscilla?

One of the most debatable things about Elvis’s personal life is his relationship with Priscilla. The movie Priscilla is based on Priscilla Presley’s book Elvis and Me, about how she met Elvis, how they got married, and what happened to make them fall out of love and split up. The book was turned into a made-for-TV movie of the same name by Larry Peerce. Elvis and Priscilla met when she was only 14, but their love story is treated as a modern-day fairy tale in pop culture, and the story of how much they loved each other is told repeatedly. Coppola has said that her movie will be mostly about Priscilla Presley and that Elvis will almost be a side character. The movie will not show much of his working life. But at the same time, the number of red flags in their relationship and what happens to it in the end, is the right mix for dramatic tension, going from highs to lows and capturing some real human moments between the larger-than-life characters.

“I’ve had her memoir for years and remember reading it a long time ago. A friend of mine was talking about her recently, and we got around to discussing the book. I read it again and was really moved by her story. I was supposed to start this big Edith Wharton project that was gonna take five months to shoot and felt really daunting. I came up against a few hurdles, so I just decided to pivot to making one film with one idea. I was just so interested in Priscilla’s story and her perspective on what it all felt like to grow up as a teenager in Graceland. She was going through all the stages of young womanhood in such an amplified world—kinda similar to Marie Antoinette.”

Who Is Making ‘Priscilla’?

As usual, Sofia Coppola is directing the movie, which is based on Priscilla Presley’s memoir and has a plot she wrote herself. The writer-director puts a lot of herself into all of her movies and is in charge of making them from the beginning to the end, and Priscilla is no different. Coppola is also one of the film’s producers, along with Lorenzo Mieli (The Hand of God) and Youree Henley (The Lighthouse), and Priscilla Presley and Chris Hatcher are the film’s executive producers. Philippe Le Sourd, who is best known for his beautiful work in Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster, was the film’s top director of photography. Sarah Flack, who has worked with Sofia Coppola on all of her movies since Lost in Translation, is also editing Priscilla.
