The Epic Showdown: Godzilla vs. Kong
The MonsterVerse has brought together iconic monsters in a series of thrilling films. Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters set the stage for the ultimate crossover event: Godzilla vs. Kong. This Hollywood production marked the first time these legendary creatures clashed on-screen. Initially enemies, they joined forces to face a common enemy: Mechagodzilla.
A Battle of Titans
Mechagodzilla, created by Apex, was intended to eliminate the Titans but was corrupted by the consciousness of Ghidorah. After defeating this robotic menace, Godzilla returned to the depths of the Earth’s waters, while Kong was transported to Hollow Earth. However, it seems that these colossal forces of nature cannot stay separated for long.
The New Empire
The next film in the MonsterVerse is now officially titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. In this sequel, both Godzilla and Kong will face an undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their existence and humanity itself. The movie will delve deeper into the histories of these Titans, exploring their origins, the mysteries of Skull Island, and beyond. It will also reveal the mythic battle that forever tied these extraordinary beings to humankind.
The Human Element
While the main draw of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will undoubtedly be the epic battles between giant monsters, humanity always plays a role in these stories. Let’s take a look at the cast of the film:
Returning as the director of the film is Adam Wingard, who previously helmed Godzilla vs. Kong. Joining him is actor Dan Stevens, known for his roles in The Guest, Beauty and the Beast, Downton Abbey, and Legion. Stevens will take on the role of the film’s main protagonist.
Brian Tyree Henry
Brian Tyree Henry reprises his role as Bernie Hayes, an employee at Apex Cybernetics and a conspiracy podcaster. He played a key role in exposing Apex’s activities and understanding the Titans’ behavior in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Rebecca Hall returns as Dr. Ilene Andrews, an anthropologist linguist who studied Kong on Skull Island and is the adoptive mother of Jia, the island’s last native. She witnessed the battle between Kong and Godzilla in Hong Kong and is likely still working for Monarch in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Kaylee Hottle, a deaf actress, made her film debut in Godzilla vs. Kong as Jia Andrews. Jia shares a special bond with Kong and communicates through American Sign Language. She will likely continue to accompany Dr. Ilene Andrews and monitor Kong in the Hollow Earth outpost station.
Fala Chen, known for her roles in Hong Kong movies and TV shows, appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and HBO’s Irma Vep miniseries. Her character in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has not been revealed yet.
Alex Ferns, recognized for his roles in UK TV shows like EastEnders and The Batman, will likely play one of the antagonistic humans in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Rachel House, known for her work with Taika Waititi, will also join the cast of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. She has voiced characters in Moana, Soul, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her role in the film is yet to be announced.
