The Latest Major Patch for Final Fantasy 14

The latest major patch for Final Fantasy 14 has been released, finally making it possible for players to play the entire main scenario alone.

Duty Support System

Square Enix first added the Duty Support system back in the game’s version 6.1 patch back in April 2022, allowing players to take on the launch portion of the game entirely solo.

Duty Support lets players take on main scenario dungeons with a party of NPCs, whereas before they would have been required to team up with other human players online.

Expanding Duty Support

When the feature was initially included in version 6.1, players were able to use Duty Support to play through all the content that was available when the game originally relaunched in 2013 as A Realm Reborn.

With each subsequent patch, Square Enix has been adding Duty Support to more dungeons in the game’s story expansions, and with its Version 6.5 patch, which is named Growing Light, it’s finally completed the task by adding it to the final three dungeons that were yet to receive it.

This now means that, as of Version 6.5, players can play through the entire main quest storyline for A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker solo, accompanied only by NPC party members.

Other Features Added in Version 6.5

Other features added in Version 6.5 include an expansion to the game’s free trial, which now lets players try the game and its Heavensward and Stormblood expansions up to level 70 for free.

Stormblood has also been added to the game’s Starter Edition, meaning players who already own the Starter Edition and those playing it for the first time will now have access to the first two expansions at no extra cost.

Version 6.5 will also see the addition of a Fall Guys collaboration

Arrival on Xbox Series X/S

In July it was announced that Final Fantasy 14 is finally set to arrive on Xbox Series X/S.

The MMO will officially be launching on Microsoft‘s consoles in Spring 2024, but an open beta will launch during the Version 6.5 period.
