Chichester News executives Ryan and Alex Ewen have pledged to pull no punches when they take part in a charity boxing event in the city on Saturday (September 9).

The brothers will join other charity pugilists who are pulling on the gloves to boost funds for Cancer Research UK inthe white collar boxing bout at the Westgate Leisure Centre.

The Ewens have endured two months of hard gym work, taxing training sessions and relentless pad work to prepare for the event. On the night there will 25 fights, consisting of three two-minute rounds. The hope is for between 800 and 1,000 people to attend.

Ryan says the training has been punishing but that he accepts it has to be done to ensure a great fight night for a great cause.

He said: “It’s been quite challenging to push myself to new and different levels. I am quite a fit chap anyway, but the demands in boxing are very different. Overall, I have enjoyed the discipline of training now all I need to do is put it to good use in the ring.”

Alex Ewen is also looking forward to the challenge. He said: “I have discovered that boxing is a very demanding sport and requires a lot of dedication in training. I think I have been quite diligent so find myself in as good a shape as can be expected.”

The siblings say they are delighted to play their part in fundraising for Cancer Research UK. Organisers of the Ultra White Collar Boxing event have raised more than £9million from previous events.
