Dawn of a new era as queen of vintage and vivacious burlesque hostess proves to be a real star!

Dawn Gracie

It’s been another busy week, even if a little on the quiet side. I don’t know about anyone else, but I always find myself snowed under with admin, before I even get to the meat of what I do.

I have been absolutely inundated with music submissions from all over the place, both digital and physical. As anyone with large piles of things to organize will know, it takes a while! Still, there have been some fun moments this week; some of which I will divulge here in my usual fashion.

Earlier in the week, I had the fortune of meeting local entertainer Dawn Gracie. Dawn and I had known about each other for nearly five years, but had never actually met. Being so involved in local culture, it was a joy to meet someone who has such a thirst and enthusiasm for bringing something different into the area.

She came into the office with all the pizazz and sparkle of a celebrity; dressed suitably for the occasion. As can be seen by the various bits of social media, we got on like a house on fire. It may have been our first meeting, but it certainly won’t be the last.

It was National Apprenticeship Week this week, and I was delighted to be invited to Chichester College to discuss what they offer. Being a university graduate, I was not too familiar with what was available to apprentices, and the scope around it. It really stunned me, just how many different fields take on apprentices. After the week’s promotions surrounding the week, I hope it encourages more people to consider apprenticeships.

Lastly, there was excitement in the office as we hit two milestones. Our new Facebook page hit 300 likes in the middle of this week, thanks to the support of people local and afar. The second milestone is that we have set about recording our first studio segments for online broadcast.

We are currently running a couple of test shows on our online service, in anticipation of our impending launch. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am, as it has been over a year since we closed. Lessons have been learned, things have been tried and SouthWaves is coming back on the map!

SouthWaves Radio are still taking music submissions. If you’re a local band or artist and would like some airplay, please email [email protected] for more information.
