The ancient citadel of Chichester has been on the map since the fifth century and the city’s sheer magnificence owes much to its historical importance. In comparison, Chichester News is but an infant. Yet we have grown rapidly. And we are delighted to report that it’s taken us just six months to claim our place on the city’s digital map.

That’s because we have just been granted a prestigious accreditation by Google, the online search engine that processes more than 40,000 search queries every second; that’s a mind-boggling 3.5 billion searches per day and, wait for it, 1.2 trillion searches each year worldwide.

Through my experience in main stream media as a journalist I know only too well that being as visible as possible online is crucial. To be considered as an authoritative news source by Google News is a huge fillip. Google is one of the biggest online authorities and we are very much encouraged by their endorsement of what we are doing.

The bottom line is that our stories will attract even more exposure and subsequent coverage we accrue as a source will further deliver that news. There are so many benefits. And as far as recruitment is concerned that can only be an enticement to attracting journalists who want their work to have as big as online audience as possible.

Ryan Ewen, Head of Digital at Falbros Media Group – the tech company behind Chichester.News, is delighted with the accreditation and says the endorsement is a fitting reward for the team’s dedication and editorial nous. He said: “Being an accredited Google news source is a big step forward for Chichester News and something that we have worked hard on over the past six months.

“This status builds on our intention to be the leading online news source for Chichester by providing quality, reliable and expertly structured news coupled with the benefits of increased traffic which is associated with this status.”
